Harry Spero and His Fabulous Friends

Harry Spero and His Fabulous Friends was created as a collaborative recording project that allowed Spero to work with an ever-expanding circle of musicians, singers, and songwriters while exploring a wide variety of musical styles. Drawing from classic rock, singer-songwriter traditions, folk, pop, Americana, and 1960s influences, the project has produced several albums featuring contributions from many of Spero's closest musical colleagues and friends. Whether recording deeply personal songs, nostalgic pop tunes, or full-band rock tracks, Harry Spero and His Fabulous Friends showcases Spero's versatility as a songwriter and his passion for musical collaboration. Featured releases include The Tools of Ignorance, Just Another Day at the Beach, The End of the Alphabet, and Couples Therapy.

Couples Therapy turns relationship dynamics into song — intimate, funny, sometimes bruising, and always honest. A conversation set to music.

The End of the Alphabet

Rockbeat · 2014

The first new Harry Spero and His Fabulous Friends album in three years, released on July 22, 2014. The End of the Alphabet is the first time (and hopefully the last) that Harry sings lead on every track — maybe we shouldn't be promoting that fact. There is a bright side: Shannon Conley of Lez Zeppelin, and understudy in the Broadway smash Hedwig and the Angry Inch, duets with Harry on “What Good is This?” The album features ten compositions in the singer/songwriter mode and includes “Doubletake Boulevard,” a song Harry wrote the week before the final recording session and sprung on his pals the day they recorded it. Influenced by Jackson Browne, Mark Knopfler, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Webb, the ten songs address love, love lost, distinct memories and memories lost.

Just Another Day at the Beach is Harry Spero's homage to the 60's. Influenced by Burt Bacharach, The Mamas and Papas, Phil Spector, the British Invasion bands and some of the great 60's one hit wonder artists, this album contains many prominent themes heard in 60's music: coveting that girl from the better side of the tracks, longing for the boy who might not even know you're alive, experiencing love for the first time, memories of love lost and gained, and a “Disney-like” tune to end the song cycle.

The Tools of Ignorance

Big Daddy · 2010

Because he had been so busy developing his advertising business, Harry and his band Loaded had been idle for five years. And Harry thought — what if I did another CD, but this time I would put together all my friends who sing and play? It will be like a Harry Spero Supersession. So over a six month period, with the help of his producing partner Jonathan Appell and more than 25 of Harry's best musical friends, The Tools of Ignorance was recorded. It features nine songs written in the past ten years, plus the first song Harry ever wrote, “No Onion Necessary.” There are some rockers, some ballads, some funky stuff, a country rock tune, and even a song to dance (or sway) to. Kind of like one of those boxes with an assortment of candy — it's a sampler of classic rock. In the summer of 2009, three songs, “My Imagination,” “No Onion Necessary” and “New Car Smell,” were played on almost 40 radio stations across the country.
